Hivox Biotek Inc. Displays New Sleep Aid Devices

May 2, 2001

Hivox Biotek Inc., a Taiwan inventor and manufacturer of biomedical products, presented the company's newest line of sleep healthcare aids at the spring edition of Giftionery Taipei, held April 19-22 at the Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC).

The "Dreamate" is an innovative, patented device that is worn on the wrist while sleeping. With special electrical pulses, it stimulates "sleep-related" acupuncture points while a micro-motor massager ensures user comfort. Additionally, the stimulus assists in releasing melatonin to improve blood circulation. According to the company, by wearing the device regularly users can train their biological clocks and improve sleep quality.

The "Snore-Stopper" is also a wrist-worn device that helps stop annoying snoring without disturbing the user's sleep quality. It features a specially designed biosensor with logic-control IC. When the device detects snoring, a gentle, four-second electrical pulse is automatically sent to stimulate nerves on the snorer's skin. The brain senses this nerve stimulation and reminds or trains the snorer to change his/her sleeping posture, thereby reducing snoring.

Established just last year, Hivox Biotek develops its products from the concept of "bioinformatics", which is the incorporation of life sciences with electronic technology. In this way, consumers can detect and analyze many biological properties themselves, enabling them to perform self-testing and self-treatment at home. "We are currently making efforts to break into the European market," said Edward Ruei, deputy general manager of the firm. "We are also in the midst of applying for FDA approval for these devices," he added.
